Argišt Alaverdyan was born in Armenia in 1991 and has lived in the Czech Republic since 1993. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. After his studies, between 2017-2019, he organized exhibitions and actions in the Ideal space (artist-run space) with a collective of artists.
Alaverdyan’s work have been shown at the Vienna Contemporary, the National Gallery in Prague, Czech Center in Berlin, GAVU Cheb, House Gallery in Broumov, Sokolská 26 gallery in Ostrava, East Slovak Gallery in Košice, Kunsthalle Bratislava, Ján Koniarik Gallery in Trnava.
In his paintings created in recent years, he has focused on the new technologies that are changing our lives from the ground up, such as robotization and digitization. It reflects the world that takes place on the monitors and screens of computers, tablets, and mobile phones; the world which is increasingly becoming a substitute for the real world. Monitors represent the interface between the virtual realm of computer codes, which can only be grasped by reason, and the material realm perceived by the senses. They are part of both: on the one hand, as a medium producing various combinations of static and moving images and texts, on the other hand, as a material artifact that has a specific material character. (Marcel Fišer)
Alaverdyan enters the medium of painting as a re-evaluated and newly set-up process that reflects the technological changes in functional and functionalist visuality. He perceives the image as a variable system field, which carries within it and reflects principles of communication . We locate these principles behind abstract morphology, the basis of which can be found in computer graphics, in the whole range of programming - from the simplest forms of 2D graphics to complexly composed sets of scenarios translated into 3D virtual digital forms. On the one hand, the author is fascinated by the very design of spaces and areas, which are programmed for various purposes in the projected level of intangible data, on the other hand, he is not left in peace by the principles that ingeniously hide behind all this effort. (Petr Vaňous)
